‘’We dream in colours borrowed from the sea’’
When I close my eyes, I see the blue water of the Aegean Sea. The island of Naxos has been for many years the one and only place, I truly find inner peace. The family origins and the deep love for the island have been the reasons that I spent all the summers of my childhood there. One of my earliest memories is my grandmother narrating the myth of Theseus and Ariadne. This myth takes place in Naxos, so I had great fun listening the story, while sitting on the rocks of the emblematic ancient monument of ‘’Portara’’ in the port of the island.
The admiration about the diverse history, the myths, the monuments and the local culture combined with the magnificent landscape inspired me to pursue studies in History and Archaeology. This time, in Rethimno Crete or ‘’my second home’’. Since then, I have never stopped exploring. I moved abroad, to Utrecht, Netherlands, for about two years. Living abroad introduced me to a completely new way of thinking and gave me the chance to meet people from all over the world.
Returning to Athens, after eight years away from home and the city I grew up, felt an amazing challenge. I felt the need to get to know the city deeper. In order to achieve that, I started walking around, observing the buildings, the neighbourhoods and the people.
Joining the team of Alternative Athens felt immediately the right choice for me. Besides the fact that I could spend time discussing about the city’s history and culture (which I love), I have at the same time the opportunity to meet lovely travellers from all around the world. Each one brings a new story and shares a piece of her/his culture with us. This priceless gift can never make you feel bored.
